The City of Westminster borough occupies most of the central London area as well as most of the West End. It is divided into several localities; the ancient political area of Westminster around the Palace of Westminster; the shopping areas such as Oxford, Regent, Piccadilly and Bond Street; the nightlife and entertainment area of Soho; the theatres in the Strand and Shaftesbury Avenue. Despite the vast number of open spaces and large parks, this area has an estimated residential population of 236 000 people.
Westminster is home to some of the most popular tourist sites in London such as Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square to mention only a few. For the more relaxed attractions there is Green Park, Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, Regents Park and St James’ Park. Not only is it the heart of the shopping and nightlife in London, Westminster is the heart of London and a must visit area for all visitors and tourists.
