The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham is a borough in the east of London and forms part of Outer London. Barking and Dagenham themselves are to the east of central London.
Within the borough lies the ruined Anglo-Saxon Barking Abbey, built in 666 AD. The Abbey is the venue for yearly Barking Carnival, held every May. The carnival hosts an open-air classical music concert, children’s rides and a pageant. The Broadway Theatre is situated within Barking Town Centre and is one of the last venues where you can see a traditional East End variety show, featuring top acts, tea dances and amateurs. At the beginning of every July the Dagenham Town Show takes place and offers trade and craft stalls, a funfair, concerts and arena displays. The stunning 17th century Valence House building is now a museum and treasure trove of local historical information.
